The old industrial sites in and around Essen are always worth a visit. In Herten, not far from Essen, is the former mining heap Halde Hoheward. It, too, is now used for tourism and features art. A skate park, pump tracks and native wild shrubs await at the foot of the heap. From there, I crossed the Dragon Bridge, the sight of which alone is worth the journey, and head up to the top. There is also a straight staircase with 500+ steps on the other side, but I particularly like the serpentine walk that slowly takes me above the (artificial) tree line. At the top, the noise from the nearby motorway slowly fades and a pair of kestrels greet me with a call (check the free download). And acoustically, the special sound of this place slowly finds its way into my ears. The huge steel structure whistles and rattles in the strong gusts and there is plenty of wind up here. A marvellous trip that I was able to record with my microphones. I also started my new video channel after this excursion, check below. Die alten Industrieflächen in und um Essen sind immer eine Reise wert. In Herten, unweit von Essen, liegt die Halde Hoheward. Auch sie ist inzwischen touristisch genutzt und mit Kunst versehen. Am Fuß der Halde warten noch Skatepark, Pumptracks und heimische Wildstauden. Von dort über die Drachenbrücke , deren Anblick alleine schon die Reise wert ist, geht es dann hoch auf die Halde. Auf der anderen Seite gibt es auch eine gerade Treppe mit 500+ Stufen, ich mag aber die Serpentinen besonders, die mich langsam oberhalb der (künstlichen) Baumgrenze führen. Oben schwindet so langsam der Lärm der nahen Autobahn und ein Turmfalken Pärchen begrüßt mich rufend. Und akustisch findet so langsam der besondere Klang dieses Ortes seinen Weg in mein Ohr. Das riesige Stahl-Konstrukt pfeift und rattert im Wind und davon gibt es hier oben reichlich. Ein herrlicher Ausflug, den ich mit meinen Mikrofonen festhalten konnte.
