This blog officially launches in 2017. Because so many people asked what it will look like, I decided to put up this first post as an example.
For the first recording sessions I picked the exact point where the river Ruhr enters Essen (from Bochum). To get there I had to park my car at the Railway Museeum in Bochum and walk a short trail along the tracks.
The first glance at the river is on the border from Bochum to Essen inside a tunnel under the railway. Enjoying the view, this is also the place where I was introduced to the first sound. A train was passing by above me. As I was inside a very reverberant place, the very short train sounded strangely futuristic. As this place is characterized by the railway, I decided to put this sound here.
Also I am pretty sure that through the upcoming posts we will meet the railway again as most parts of the Ruhr are accompanied by the railway. I am also afraid of the railway as I already know the train sounds will spoil a couple of quiet nature recordings I am going to make.
Speaking of which, here is another recording I made at this place. It is of an unknown bird, that was hopping in the branches maybe half a meter away from me before it left rather quick. Due to its size and the short tail I would guess Eurasian wren (someone suggested chiffchaff after breeding season), but we couldn’t find any recordings to proof that, so let me know if you can help me with that. (Sorry for not delivering any details on the colour of the bird, but I am suffering from dyschromatopsia).
I spent very short time at this place and was trying to record dogs bathing, as there is a great spot to go for a swim (as a dog), but all the time people would start a conservation and ruin the recordings so I will return more stealthy next time and make up for that.
