This started as an audio blog in 2017 – featuring the sound of Essen (NRW / Germany). It was an offical project for “Essen – European Green Capital 2017”.

At least once a month sounds on, in or next to the rivers Ruhr and Emscher in Essen were captured and published on this website. I tried to display the huge range of aural events happening here. While some posts  focus on nature sounds like birds, ambiences or dawn choruses other will show the sound of industry, leisure and travel (ships). Some sounds might have the simple meaning to make you relax while listening, others might be a documentation of present or past times or of scientific purpose.

I try to paint an acoustic map of the two rivers and hope to excite to take a trip and listen yourself.

All sounds published on this side are free for download and use in commercial and non-commercial projects . Maybe credit / link to this blog, when ppossible, as I love to hear what you did. Here is  the legal.

From 2018 on, this blog will feature the project “Assindia X” and will display insights on the ongoing 10 year lasting project. More infos soon.

In the meantime we also started releasing commercial libraries with sounds from Essen. I will provide free downloads / samples on this blog as well as links to the whole collection. (also check the shop at Sonniss or at A Sound Effect)

If there is a certain place in Essen with great sound and you want me to go there and record it, please let me know in the comments or on the facebook page. Also happy about any feedback.

Dies ist ein Audio-Blog, der 2017 startet und sich dem Klang der Stadt Essen (NRW) widmet. Er ist ein offizielles Projekt von “Essen – Europäische Grüne Hauptstadt 2017”.

Mindestens einmal pro Monat werden Sounds in, auf und an den beiden Flüssen Ruhr und Emscher in Essen aufgenommen und auf dieser Website veröffentlicht. Ich hoffe die große Bandbreite an akkustischen Ereignissen hier darzustellen. Während einige Beiträge sich auf Naturklänge wie Vögel, Nacht-Atmosphären (mit Grillen und Fröschen) oder “Sonnenaufgangs-Chöre” konzentrieren werden andere die Geräusche von Industrie, Transport (Schiffe), Freizeit und Energiegewinnung beinhalten. Einige Klänge werden dazu einladen beim Hören zu entspannen, andere werden heutige oder vergangene Zeiten dokumentieren oder wissenschaftliche Züge haben.

Ich werde versuchen eine aurale Karte der beiden Flüsse zu erstellen, die dazu einlädt selber einen Ausflug zu planen und zu lauschen.

Alle Audio Samples werden sowohl zum Stream als auch zum Download bereit gestellt und können frei verwendet werden in kommerziellen und nicht-kommerziellen Projekten. Wenn möglich gerne Credits an diesen Blog geben oder verlinken, ich freue mich zu Hören, wo die Sounds gelandet sind. Hier die Lizenz.

Ab 2018 werden hier Ausschnitte aus dem auf 10 Jahre angelegten Projekt “Assindia X” zu hören sein. Mehr Infos folgen.

Desweiteren haben wir begonnen kommerziele Sound Sammlungen aus Essen anzubieten für Spieleentwickler, Sound Designer für Film, TV und Werbung sowie Radioschaffende und Künstler.
